Director Bryan Singer Has Been Fired From The Queen Biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

Director Bryan Singer Has Been Fired From The Queen Biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

"Bryan Singer is no longer the director of 'Bohemian Rhapsody, ' " a Twentieth Century Fox Film spokesperson told the Daily News.

Last week, Fox suspended a to the director's "unexpected unavailability". In his multiple absences, cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel had to handle directing duties.

Tom Hollander also reportedly quit his role as band manager Jim Beach before being convinced to return to the movie.

As for the aforementioned clash between Singer and Malek, the tension came to a confrontation that didn't escalate to becoming physical, but did result in Singer throwing an unidentified object.

The decision "reflected a growing clash between Singer and actor Rami Malek and was caused by Singer's being missing from the set, necessitating the December 1 production shut-down of the film", claimed The Hollywood Reporter.

House of Cards to Resume Production in 2018 with Shorter Season
Since then, rumors have floated that Netflix was considering a spinoff series rather than move forward with its flagship show.

The two eventually made a decision to move forward, but after Singer did not return to the set after Thanksgiving - he's reportedly told people he's been suffering P.T.S.D. because of on-set friction - Sigel directed several scenes and production was stopped.

Well, small wonder, because Fox has now informed The Hollywood Reporter that Singer has been straight FIRED! THR remarks Singer's extended absence as the "final straw" for the studio, which led to his termination today.

However, Singer did not return to set after the Thanksgiving break. Malek complained to the studio, according to THR, claiming that the director was not showing up and that he was both unreliable and unprofessional.

This article was originally published by The Hollywood Reporter. There are two weeks of principal photography left, and it is expected Twentieth Century Fox will announce a replacement director in the coming days.
