Fitbit's smartwatch finally gets its first update

Fitbit's smartwatch finally gets its first update

"The Fitbit Ionic is an ambitious and promising smartwatch with a focus on fitness and accurate tracking, but its success will depend on the growth of its app ecosystem", we wrote in our review.

New apps from popular brands (including The New York Times, Uber, Yelp, and more) and developers across a variety of categories, such as Food & Drink, Games, Health & Fitness, Home and IOT, News, and Travel & Transit.

Some of the new apps arrive at the height of the holiday gift buying season, so perhaps they'll make the Ionic a more tempting, Android compatible alternative to the Apple Watch. On the apps side of things, some of the big names include Walgreens, Nest, Philips Hue, Yelp, Flipboard, The New York Times, TripAdvisor, Uber, United Airlines, British Airways, and Lyft.

Partnership with Deezer, a personal streaming music service, to give Ionic users around the globe instant access to their favorite tunes right from their wrist (available in 2018). Fitbit OS was quite laggy, and there were only a handful of third-party apps available at launch. The first software for the Ionic was announced on Fitbit's blog on December 5, and there's a lot included with it. That's in addition to the relatively measly 17 faces included with the watch at launch.

Fitbit is also introducing Fitbit Labs, which is a way for the company's Research & Development team to test potential new features in the form of experimental apps and clock faces.

Research Analysis of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT)
Stifel Nicolaus maintained Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT ) has "Hold" rating given on Friday, September 18 by TheStreet. Moreover, Schaper Benz & Wise Investment Counsel Inc Wi has 0.97% invested in the company for 200,806 shares.

More apps and clock faces are on the way, too.

Fitbit went all-in on its new Ionic smartwatch this year.

Fitbit created a couple of goodies as well, including a Leaderboard app that will let you see how your step totals compare to family and friends.

Improved performance - Fitbit's updated touchscreen performance of the Ionic so it's faster and more fluid to use.

Jon Oakes, Fitbit's vice president of product, said the update was "just the start" of planned future enhancements. Throughout my time with the Fitbit Ionic, I've found Fitbit OS to be too laggy, nearly to the point where I don't want to wear the watch at all.
