Lindsey Vonn happy to represent U.S. at Olympics, but 'not the president'

But if the US does send its athletes to Pyeongchang then Lindsey Vonn has made it clear she will not be representing President Donald Trump. "If I were invited to the White House, which I consider a great honor, I would not attend".

In an interview with CNN, Vonn was asked what it will be like to compete for the USA when Trump is the president.

"I don't think that there are a lot of people now in our government that do that", added Vonn, 33, who is eyeing her second Olympic gold medal at the South Korea Games.

"Absolutely not", said Vonn when asked about visiting Washington DC with the rest of the Winter Olympic team. "I take the Olympics very seriously and what they mean and what they represent, what walking under our flag means in the Opening Ceremonies".

The games, which take place from February 9th through the 25th, represent perhaps her last chance to "represent [her] country well".

The memorial was inaugurated in 1961 and serves as a way to remember those who died and were injured in the massacre. It is thought that 379 people were killed, but the figure is still disputed.

Typically, the entire U.S. Olympic squad gets an invite to the White House after the games. Injuries forced her to miss the 2014 Sochi Games. "I don't think that there are a lot of people now in our government that do that", Vonn, who is in Switzerland preparing for February's Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, told CNN Wednesday.

Vonn is not a fan of Donald Trump's politics.

The Olympics are about representing the country, and not the elected officials that run it.

But if she does, the skier said that celebration won't continue on to the White House. Vonn's invitation may be withdrawn before it is ever extended.
