Pence Middle East trip to go ahead

US Vice President Mike Pence is now scheduled to arrive in Israel on Wednesday, three days later than originally planned so that he can be in the US to participate if necessary in Senate votes on tax reform. Delaying the Jerusalem visit and keeping the vice president in Washington allows Pence to cast that vote if tax reform moves forward next week.

The announcement came amid an ongoing outcry over President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital as well as move the USA embassy to the holy city.

Palestinian officials have also pressured local church leaders to not welcome Pence and follow the example of the Egyptian Coptic Church whose pope announced his refusal to meet with the U.S. vice president due to the decision. Pence is still expected to speak at the Knesset during his visit.

White House officials said they do not expect to need Pence's vote. Republican Senator John McCain, who is fighting brain cancer, was in hospital on Wednesday. Pence will arrive in Israel later Wednesday for a visit to the Western Wall.

He is scheduled to be welcomed Thursday by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his office, address the Knesset, and then hold a meeting with Netanyahu in the evening at his residence.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra will pronounce the judgment tomorrow before the court goes into winter recess. They have also objected to the CBSE decision to make Aadhaar compulsory for students appearing for examinations.

White House officials said Pence will end his visit to Israel on Friday by meeting with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and visiting the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial.

"A hundred years after the Balfour declaration, Trump offered Jerusalem as a gift to Israel". The decision upended decades of US foreign policy and countered an global consensus that Jerusalem's status should be decided in negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, who claim east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

"It is also important to ignore the distortions and instead focus on what the president actually said last week - the specific boundaries of Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem are subject to final status negotiations between the parties, the United States continues to take no position on any final status issues and the United States would support a two-state solution if agreed to by both sides", a White House spokesperson said. Kushner and other top Trump aides have traveled to the region to meet with Palestinians, Israelis and officials from Arab nations.

He will cap off the trip with a stop at a USA base in Germany and return Saturday.
