South Korea's Moon to visit China amid North Korea tensions

China has been critical of United States exercises with South Korea and Japan, which it believes are basically unhelpful for resolving the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged related countries to avoid provoking each other.

While the USA military aircraft conducted simulated strikes, the South Korean warplanes actually dropped MK-82 bombs.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the Guam-based bomber simulated land strikes at a military field near South Korea's eastern coast during a drill with US and South Korean fighter jets. Yet the Air Force claimed that the drills were "not in response to any incident or provocation" and pointed out that the USA and South Korea carry them out every year.

The exercises are specifically focused on the threat from North Korea, as US and South Korean forces are training to strike North Korean nuclear and missile sites, as well as its mobile missiles.

On Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-NC) called for families of American military personnel to leave South Korea amid rising tensions in the region as war becomes "more likely".

He and vice foreign minister Pak Myong-Kuk discussed "cooperation between the DPRK and the UN Secretariat and assistance from UN agencies to the DPRK and other matters of mutual interest", the North's KCNA news agency reported, using the acronym for the country's official name.

Plot to blow up Theresa May is foiled
After the Cabinet briefing earlier, Parker said nine Islamist terrorist plots had been foiled in Britain over the past year. In March, Khalid Masood drove a vehicle at pedestrians on Westminster Bridge and stabbed a policeman guarding Parliament.

US Presidential Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that China is key to unlocking the North Korea issue.

Feltman, a former senior U.S. State Department official, is the highest-level United Nations official to visit North Korea since 2012.

The B-1B Lancer bomber flew from Guam and joined the massive joint aerial drills over the peninsula on Wednesday, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

The military exercises, called "Vigilant Ace", are created to enhance joint readiness and operational capability of USA extended deterrence, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. Chinese experts believe that this exercise targeted the Vigilant Ace-18 joint exercises launched by the South Korean and American air forces on December 4. But China has been vocal in its criticism of North Korea's nuclear and missiles programme, as well as attacking the US and South Korea for ratcheting up tensions. It comes days after North Korea launched its most powerful ballistic missile yet.

"The Department of Defense now has no intent to initiate departures for military dependents, whether on a voluntary or mandatory basis, and no intent to modify the policy authorizing military dependents to accompany military members being stationed in South Korea", Lt. Col. Chris Logan, a Pentagon spokesman, said in emailed remarks to Yonhap.
