Steve Bannon couldn't carry Roy Moore to victory - and Republicans are delighted

Now that wing of the party has turned on him after the loss in the deeply red state.

Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) was more cutting on Wednesday, tweeting angrily, "After Alabama disaster GOP must do right thing and DUMP Steve Bannon". "And I say that because he goes out of his way to look "everyday" when he's a Goldman Sachs millionaire". "He looks like some disheveled drunk that wandered onto the political stage", King said of Bannon, speaking to CNN's Chris Cuomo.

"This guy does not belong on the national stage", King said. "He's not representing what I stand for", King said.

"The View" co-host Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. "He wants to depose Mitch McConnell as Majority Leader even if it costs Republicans Senate control".

In the final weeks leading up to the Alabama special election, Bannon campaigned for Moore, who has been accused of pursuing relationships with teenagers when he was in his 30s.

The Wall Street Journal's conservative editorial page has knives out for former top Trump political strategist Steve Bannon.

He returned to his perch at the conservative Breitbart News website, and in October promised to challenge almost every sitting Senate Republican up for reelection in 2018. Trump endorsed Moore in the race. He has continued to be loyal to the president and both Senate candidates.

He also gave little indication that he was backing away from his involvement in political races, as he seeks to usurp the GOP establishment with figures like Moore and Donald Trump who center their personas on nationalist and anti-elitist rhetoric.

"You have to grind it out", he reportedly told Breitbart Radio. "If we're prepared to do it, we win", he said.

Cuomo then asked, "Did you just call Steve Bannon a disheveled drunk?"
