Recently, it was also reported that the mobile connections not linked to Aadhaar card will get deactivated.

The Supreme Court is hearing petitions challenging the government's decision on Aadhaar and has said it may consider setting up a constitution bench to hear pleas challenging the Centre's move to make Aadhaar card mandatory for availing various services and benefits of welfare schemes.

The government may, however, restrict the March 31, 2018, extension only to those who still do not have an Aadhaar number. Other services that would require Aadhaar include mobile phones and banking services.

PPF NSC, KVP, Post Office: The centre Government has made it necessary to linking of Aadhaar number to post office account, PPF, NSC, and KVP whose the last date is 31 December of this year. He had said such people would not be denied the benefits of social welfare schemes till 31 March. A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra was informed by Attorney General K K Venugopal that the Centre was willing to extend the deadline of 31 December to 31 March next year for linking of Aadhaar with various services and schemes.

The Central government has previously made Aadhaar card mandatory for carrying out nearly all the legal tasks in the country. Aadhaar will also be made mandatory to open bank account or to secure loans.

The Apex Court has upheld the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN in the case of Binoy Viswam vs Union of India which mandates Aadhaar for income tax returns and PAN.
