USA jets intercept Russian plans over Syria, fire flares

United States fighter jets have fired warning flares in Syrian airspace after Russian fighter planes entered a non-conflict area, the U.S. defence department said.

One official said that the aerial encounter lasted "several minutes", as the Russian jets crossed the de-confliction line several times.

"Since agreeing to this de-confliction arrangement, the Russians have flown into our airspace on the east side of the river 6-8 times per day, or approximately 10 percent of the Russian and Syrian flights", Pickart said.

The agreement on the so-called de-escalation zones was signed by Russia, Turkey and Iran in May.

US military jets intercepted two Russian aircraft over Syria Thursday - and fired warning flares, officials said.

Russian officials also say the United States fighters carried out mid-air maneuvers created to simulate a fire-fight with the Russian Su-25s, though it does not appear that in this case they got in any sort of conflict with the more advanced Su-35.

Russian and the US military officials agreed last month to fly on opposite sides of a 45-mile portion of the Euphrates River in an effort to prevent collisions in the busy airspace.

Electronic waste poses 'growing risk' to environment, human health
According to the report, the total value of all raw materials from e-waste in 2016 is approximately $65 billion. Most of the refuse ends up in landfills , is incinerated or simply piles up unused in people's home.

Pickart accused the Russian pilots of risky flying during the encounter.

Under the agreement, the USA considers the area to the north and east of the Euphrates River part of their "skies", while Russian Federation has freedom to patrol west of the river.

"If either of us needs to cross the river for any reason, we're supposed to first de-conflict via the [hot] line".

At the weekend Russian official Igor Konashenkov said he was bewildered the U.S. had staked a claim over part of Syria's air space and accused the US-led coalition of "operating in Syria illegally".

"We are not here to fight the Russians and Syrians - our focus remains on defeating ISIS. That said, if anyone threatens coalition or friendly partner forces in the air or on the ground, we will defend them".

"It couldn't be more complex and crowded in that area", said the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, describing the Euphrates River valley following the incident.
