Whistleblower: At inauguration, Flynn texted on nuclear plan

A whistleblower claims that Michael Flynn texted a former business partner during Trump's inauguration to say that a plan to work with Russian Federation on new nuclear power plants in the Middle East was "good to go".

The former National Security Advisor specifically told his colleague that the sanctions would be "ripped up," according to a new account given to Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland) by a whistleblower.

In June, Newsweek revealed that while he was an adviser to Trump, Flynn had done work for a consortium led by Copson and former senior USA military officials to build nuclear power plants in the Middle East in a partnership with a Russian state-owned energy contractor. "These grave allegations compel a full, credible, and bipartisan congressional investigation", Cummings wrote in the letter addressed to committee chairman Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.).

"I believe the American people want Congress to hold President Trump and his Administration accountable, and they are exhausted of Republicans in Congress putting their heads in the sand when faced with credible allegations of grave abuses while at the same time conducting investigations of allegations against Secretary Clinton that were debunked years ago", Cummings wrote.

On Inauguration Day, Flynn apparently texted Copson that the power plant venture was "good to go", according to the whistleblower.

The whistleblower told Democrats that the associate had been informed by Flynn that the project was "good to go" and that the sanctions would be "ripped up".

"I do not bring this whistleblower to your attention lightly", Cummings wrote in the letter. ACU was pushing a nuclear project in the Middle East that Flynn is said to have lobbied for while in the White House.

Pope Francis to Palestinian clergy: Respect is first precondition for dialogue
Pope Francis called on President Donald Trump to respect the "status quo" and not move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. The Pope made comments to a group of visiting Palestinians involved in inter-religious dialogue with the Vatican.

An attorney for Flynn did not respond to a request for comment from CNBC.

The witness told Cummings and committee investigators that Copson shared a text message he had just received from Flynn, who was on stage at the Capitol during Trump's speech.

"Mike has been putting everything in place for us", Copson told the informant, according to Cummings.

Neither Gowdy nor Flynn's attorney, Robert Kelner, responded immediately to a request for comment.

The unnamed whistleblower said that on Inauguration Day he met with Alex Copson, who had worked with Flynn on the plan.

Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general and former high-ranking intelligence officer, pleaded guilty last week to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his discussions with the then-Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, about the sanctions that day after they were imposed. Mr. Cummings said that Mr. Gowdy should subpoena Mr. Flynn, Mr. Copson and four others to testify before the panel.

Flynn was involved in the Middle Eastern nuclear project from spring 2015 to the end of 2016, according to recent financial disclosure filings, a period that overlapped with his role as a prominent adviser to Trump's campaign and transition.
