A Russian man, believed to be drunk, was detained after stealing an armoured personnel carrier and smashing it into a supermarket on Wednesday, reports said.

A man stole an armored tracked vehicle from the local paramilitary driving school DOSAAF and started to drive through the streets in Apatity, a town in the Murmansk region home to the Kola Science Centre. Apatity is a small town in northern Russian Federation near the Arctic Circle.

The man is reported to have crashed into the storefront and demanded wine.

He also crushed a Daewoo vehicle parked nearby, images showed.

According to regional news outlet, the unnamed culprit took the vehicle from a driving school, before failing to negotiate a bend, destroying a auto, and crashing into the shop front in the north-western town of Apatity.

He then climbed out of the vehicle's hatch, looked at the destruction, and clambered into the store, where he apparently stole a bottle of wine. I had to laugh when it was pointed out that the shop was not licensed to sell alcohol at the time of the accident.

The suspect was caught with a bottle of wine shortly after the crash.
