Kansas swatter faces involuntary manslaughter charge

The man accused of making the "swatting" call that ended in Wichita police shooting and killing an unarmed man last month was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter Thursday afternoon.

Wichita authorities picked up Tyler Barriss, 25, from the Men's Central jail in Los Angeles at 8:53 a.m.

Tyler Barriss is read his official charges including involuntary manslaughter. Police believe Barriss was responsible for making a hoax emergency call to Wichita, Kansas' 911 dispatch, and reporting a fake homicide and hostage situation. Police officers who responded surrounded a Wichita address provided by the caller and fatally shot the man who came out of the home, Andrew Finch. His bond is set at $500,000. According to information from the City of Glendale, California, Barriss was previously arrested in October 2015 as a result of a connection to a bomb threat made to ABC Studios.

"Swatting" is the term used when someone calls police with a false report of an ongoing crime.

Walmart also said it would offer financial help to full-time hourly and salaried employees who are seeking to adopt children. Because of the tax reform law, Walmart says it's also creating a new benefit to assist associates with adoption expenses.

The case, Bennett said, has been unique and there's not a lot of previous case law to reference.

Prosecutors are also reviewing a Wichita police officer's decision to shoot Finch, Bennett said.

This week, Canadian police issued an arrest warrant for Barriss, accusing him of placing an eerily similar call just six days before the Kansas shooting.

There is no update regarding punishment for the Call of Duty player that apparently provided Finch's address as his own. Police said Finch was given commands to keep his hands raised, but he reached toward his waist multiple times before being shot. The officer who shot Finch has been placed on administrative leave until the completion of the investigation. Police revealed few other details but said investigators identified a suspect who had made contact online with the woman earlier that day and that she was targeted because of her "online persona".
