Man City defensive leader Otamendi signs through 2021-22

Nicolas Otamendi has agreed a contract extension at Manchester City to keep him at the club until the end of the 2021-2022 season.

The Argentina global joined the Citizens from Valencia in 2015 and has gone on to make 118 appearances in all competitions.

Guardiola last month called Otamendi City's "Superman", but the centre-back does not feel he would be producing the level of performances he is without the Catalan. He is enjoying his best campaign yet in 2017/18, even adding goals to his game after scoring five times in all competitions so far - a very impressive return for a defender.

Phil Jones has warned Manchester City their 12-point lead in the Premier League title race could still be overhauled, just as Manchester United's lead was in the 2011/12 season.

Foreign Ministry condemns U.S. decision slashing aid to United Nations refugee agency
The US move threatens the ability of the United Nations agency to meet its major obligations towards the Palestinian refugees. The U.S. was the largest single donor to UNRWA, contributing more than 350 million dollars to the agency in 2017.

Otamendi has been a revelation this season after a hard start to his career in England. He said in an interview with CityTV: "At the club, I am really enjoying my experience since the first day I got here".

United may well beat Manchester City to Alexis Sanchez, given the league leaders are unwilling to meet the wages and fees asked for by the player, but they look like having to settle for second place in the Premier League.

Otamendi has praised Guardiola for helping him develop his game and said: "I think that now I have an important role because the central defenders have to build-up with the ball and make the team work as best we can". Pep has taught us how to do that.

"It's a very lovely city and I'm very happy here". I am still learning and I'm trying to enjoy it. I'm really enjoying it and I'm very grateful to him because I'm enjoying playing football.
