Mira Sorvino joins Greta Gerwig in severing ties with Woody Allen

Mira Sorvino joins Greta Gerwig in severing ties with Woody Allen

The actress expressed her regrets in an emotional open letter written specifically to Dylan Farrow, Allen's daughter who has alleged for years that the director molested her as a child.

"He shared enough of what he was uncovering for me to be increasingly concerned for his safety", Mia recalled.

After apologizing to Mia, the actress said that she supported and believed on Dylan, she assured that she is standing by her in "gratitude and solidarity".

Greta, 34, was asked by the New York Times about the issues of whether artists accused of sexual misconduct - naming Kevin Spacey, Roman Polanski and Woody Allen - should be allowed to continue to work in Hollywood. The "Lady Bird" writer and director finally answered the question regarding her collaboration with Woody Allen.

"It takes courageous concentration and thought, it's not a snap to judgement thing", said Sorvino on the pieces she selects to write, "I've been very careful and thought long and hard before putting out any statements, and it's why I write in written form".

"It is hard to sever ties and denounce your heroes, your benefactors, whom you fondly admired and felt a debt of gratitude toward for your entire career's existence", Sorvino writes.

Rouhani: Iran Protests About More than Economy
US Defense Secretary James Mattis has declared that Washington has "no beef" with the people of Iran, merely their government. Today's protests can be characterized as a bit more organic.

Mira starred alongside Allen in 1995's Mighty Aphrodite, which he also directed, and in an open letter addressed to Dylan, she has apologised for not taking the abuse allegations seriously at the time. "I can not begin to imagine how you have felt, all these years as you watched someone you called out as having hurt you as a child, a vulnerable little girl in his care, be lauded again and again, including by me and countless others in Hollywood who praised him and ignored you". I believe you! I am grateful to you and admire your integrity and bravery, one woman who has had to stand virtually alone all these years speaking her painful truth.

Mira Sorvino said that she grew up admiring Woody Allen's work. "I told him I wanted to learn more about you and your situation", she wrote.

"I am so sorry, Dylan!" the actress wrote. "You know, it's something that I've thought deeply about and I care deeply about, and I haven't had an opportunity to have an in-depth discussion where I come down on one side or the other".

Sorvino's apology to Farrow follows numerous other instances of backlash against Allen, as actors in Hollywood publicly denounce the 82-year-old director, who is still active, having released his latest film, Wonder Wheel, starring Kate Winslet and Justin Timberlake in December. I have not worked for him again, and I will not work for him again.

She tweeted in response: "Greta, thank you for your voice".
