Rep. McSally Officially Jumps Into Arizona Senate Race

"Like our president, I'm exhausted of P.C. politicians and their B.S. excuses", McSally says after the video of Trump's comments. "I recently made one myself, and I wanted my friends in Tucson to be the first to know". Jeff Flake (R) has said he will vacate next January.

"Like in almost every other state facing a Senate election this cycle, the Arizona Republican primary will be nasty, expensive and very long", David Bergstein, a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman said Friday in a written statement. Her primary challengers include state Sen. In it, she underscores her background as the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat and appears to nod to the conservative base with references to sharia law, religious liberties and Trump.

Rep. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) served 26 years in the Air Force and retired as a colonel in 2010.

"That's why I told Washington Republicans to grow a pair of ovaries to get the job done", she added.

Like few others, the Arizona election is expected to showcase the feud between the Republican Party's establishment and its fiery anti-immigration wing in particular.

McSally, 51, enters a dynamic Republican primary field that features former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, 85, who was pardoned by Trump previous year after defying a judge's order to stop traffic patrols that targeted immigrants.

Trump uses slur against Haiti, Africans
African-Americans believe they migrated to America in chains and when you talk about chain migration, it hurts them personally. The bipartisan immigration deal has been a hot-button issue, and lawmakers are working to come up with a plan.

"I absolutely refused to bow down to Sharia law", she said.

Arpaio, who says he is running for Senate to support President Trump, will be facing off against Kelli Ward, another pro-Trump candidate, in the GOP primary.

Trump famously fueled the birther movement for years, and while he held a press conference in September 2016 to declare "President Obama was born in the United States", he revived the conspiracy theory behind closed doors, according to a New York Times report in November.

The Aug. 28 Republican primary has the potential to be a proxy war between the national GOP factions represented by Trump, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and former White House strategist Steve Bannon.

A general-election victory by McSally, Ward or Sinema would send Arizona's first woman USA senator to Washington.

"Throughout his time as Sheriff, Arpaio continued his life's work of protecting the public from the scourges of crime and illegal immigration", Trump said in a statement at the time. "They really embrace him".
