Rouhani: Iran Protests About More than Economy

During the talks, the Italian politician called for preserving and supporting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal signed between Iran and six world powers. We will not hesitate to call out the regime's economic mismanagement, and diversion of significant resources to fund threatening missile systems at the expense of its citizenry.

"These issues - economy, corruption, and repression - are a threat to Iran's stability", according to Dagres, curator of The Iranist newsletter.

"The forces that took part in these protests are different than those behind other demonstrations we've seen in past years", said Afshari, who now lives in the United States.

200 politicians, academics, and military officials from almost 50 countries gathered in the one-day Tehran Security Conference to discuss security challenges threatening the regional countries and how to confront those threats. This time, they shouted slogans against President Hassan Rouhani and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a figure seen as subordinate only to God by hard-liners.

Tillerson also criticized the European Union for failing to support protesters in Iran as strongly as the United States has.

"They have nothing to lose", said the reporter, who had witnessed several protests in the Iranian capital.

"Once again, the nation tells the US, Britain, and those who seek to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran from overseas that you've failed, and you will fail in the future, too".

US Defense Secretary James Mattis has declared that Washington has "no beef" with the people of Iran, merely their government.

Fodder scam: Lalu's sentencing deferred by a day
The CBI court has summoned them to appear in front of the court on January 23. Lalu was chief minister of Bihar during the period. Senior RJD leader, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, asked.

Echoing some of his campaign rhetoric, Rouhani said on Monday people should be allowed to criticize all Iranian officials, with no exception. The main driving force behind this wave seems to be poor and marginalised social sectors, which did not put forward any clear political demands.

"So the most important thing, I think, is it's up to the Iranian people what form of government they have, and to say we believe that they should have the kind of government they want, And, right now, the regime senses that they've got a lot of people who aren't buying this revolutionary regime's act".

"The geographical scope of these protests were unprecedented in Iran's recent history".

Today's protests can be characterized as a bit more organic.

Meanwhile in Tabriz, Hadi insisted that the rage that sent him and others into to the streets won't go away.

"I think it's going to be a bigger challenge for the regime to justify all of these activities-the training of militias in Iraq, Syria, providing Hezbollah with hundreds of millions of dollars, if not more", he said. "In Tabriz, we say that now the regime is even afraid or our silence". Tehran's deputy provincial governor Mohsen Hamedani said the people were, "under the influence of propaganda" and were "unaware that the majority of these calls to protest came from overseas".

"On the one hand it has succeeded in preventing these protests getting out of hand and contained them to a great extend and they did not achieve critical mass in terms of numbers", Randjbar-Daemi said. "This is not the end".
