Shasta County man confesses in TV interview to 1993 cold case murder

Shasta County man confesses in TV interview to 1993 cold case murder

Hawkins said they dumped the body in the woods, where it was found by hikers a year later.

Hawkins is 44 years old and is a resident of Shingletown, Northern California.

No arrests were made in the two decades since.

The television station is directly adjacent to the police station.

In 1993, Hawkins and his then-girlfriend, 46-year-old Shanna Culver, along with her brother, 45-year-old Curtis Culver, murdered 20-year-old Frank Wesley McAlister.

"I'm going to turn myself in next door at the sheriff's department for a crime I was involved in years ago".

Cops determined that he had been stabbed to death during a robbery.

The station did not air his on-camera interview until he surrendered to police.

"He refused to answer any questions about the case itself but said he wanted people to know that he had found God, and that is what led him to finally do the right thing and confess", KRCR-TV said.

Hawkins said it was God that motivated him to come forward.

She did note that green policies can lead to business opportunities, and noted that the U.S. company Tesla was selling many electric cars in Norway.

'I know the wrong can't be changed but this is the closest I can come to doing the right thing'. Once in a rural area of Shasta County, Hawkins and the Culvers conspired to murder McCalister. They are being held without bail. The trio was booked in the Shasta County jail.

Shanna is being arraigned as a minor since she was 17 at the time. Every minute of every day has been a nightmare It's kind of weird, Frank never got to have a life, but we were teenagers and now I'm 44 and still haven't even had a life and now most likely won't anyway.

Hawkins was arrested Tuesday after his confession.

Hawkins, according to police, told investigators this week that back in 1993, he and the Culvers learned that McAlister had just received some insurance settlement money, and that he wanted to use some of it to buy methamphetamine, and then sell the drugs for profit.

During the interview, Hawkins also said he even reached out to McAlister's family previous year and that he wanted to confess to his crime in front of them.

The three then left McCalister's body in the wooded area and dumped his auto at a local Costco, according to Hawkins.

During their interviews with police this week, Hawkins and the Culvers gave different accounts. Hawkins continued, saying that there hadn't been a moment where he hadn't been remorseful for what he had done.

Curtis Culver, on the other hand, told police that Hawkins did all the stabbing, the complaint says.

During the interview with the TV station, Hawkins shed tears and appeared shaken.

"I've been through Hell my whole life because of this", Hawkins said, explaining that the guilt had eaten him up and he could not hold it in any longer. "All the detectives that had worked it have long since retired", Capt. Eric Wallace said Friday.
