Shi'ites Leader El-Zakzaky Speaks From Detention, Says 'I'm Getting Better'

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiite, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky yesterday spoke from the custody of the Department of State Security, DSS, saying that he was hale and hearty.

Speaking on the issue, the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Lai Muhammad stated earlier that El-Zakzaky was still being held on the grounds of national security.

The appearance came a day after rumours of Mr. El-Zakzaky's death spread on the social media.

The Shiite leader who was dressed in a white flowing gown with turban was literally ambushed by journalists at the detention facility in a plot obviously executed by the DSS to take sail out of the rumour that he has died in their custody.

Their continued detention has sparked several reactions from his supporters, the government and even human rights lawyer, Femi Falana. He is later driven away in a Toyota Prado SUV.

Now the captain has echoed those sentiments: "He has been brilliant for us", Morgan said. He was joined by captain Joe Root as England reached 87-2 after just 10 overs.

He thanked Nigerians for their prayers, as well as the DSS for allowing him access to his doctors.

Sheikh: If they agree and allow me. "I thank God. I am improving", he told journalists.

Zakzaky was arrested in December 2015, after his Shi'ite group clashed with an Army Convoy which included the chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai. The government refused to obey the order.

There have been series of protest by the Shiites members in different cities of the country calling for unconditional release of their leader and his wife, especially against the background of court rulings that ordered his release.
