Trump waives Iran sanctions, gives nuke deal 'last chance'

Trump again waived nuclear-related sanctions on Friday - as required every few months to stay in the agreement - but demanded European partners work with the United States to "fix the deal's disastrous flaws, or the United States will withdraw".

The US is planning to reimpose sanctions on Iran, an official said ahead of President Donald Trump's decision on sanctions relief on Tehran under the 2015 nuclear deal.

Mr Trump has argued behind the scenes that the nuclear deal makes the United States look weak, a senior USA official said.

Congress is split on the issue - hardline Republicans are urging the President to reimpose suspended sanctions and bring an end to the deal, while some liberal Democrats want to make it hard for Trump to withdraw from the deal without congressional consent.

Part of the nuclear deal was that the USA would waive the sanctions, which are part of the relief Iran gets in exchange for destroying much of its nuclear equipment and allowing inspections.

One official said Trump would be open to remaining in a modified deal if it were made permanent.

"Waiving the sanctions on the ayatollah while protesters are dying in the streets would be a serious mistake", Cruz told The Weekly Standard.

New Guidelines on Medicaid Work Requirements
Together, these data indicate that hundreds of thousands of able-bodied Nevadans receive Medicaid coverage without having to work. Other requested changes include requiring Medicaid recipients to undergo drug screening and seek treatment if they test positive.

Trump's ultimatum comes at a time when Iran's economy is struggling, and the nuclear deal has not delivered on the promises made by Iran's president, Hassan Rouhani, for economic improvement.

The restrictions could hit some firms and individuals whose sanctions were previously scrapped. Under the current deal they are set to expire in 2025.

The International Atomic Energy Agency, the nuclear watchdog of the United Nations, has consistently reported that Iran has stayed within the main parameters of the deal.

"This is the last such waiver [the President] will issue", said a senior administration official briefing reporters, threatening that the administration could still pull out of the deal. The European countries which signed on, including the U.K., France, and Germany urged the US to stay in on Thursday, claiming that Iran has been holding up its side of the bargain since the deal was signed.

Ryabkov said the USA withdrawal from the deal would damage other global agreements.

"If it means in May the new certification of Iran's complying with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action will not happen - which is how we read yesterday's signals [from Washington] - then here we clearly see a classical ultimatum from the USA side", he said.

Trump, the same day he waived the nuclear sanctions, imposed new sanctions on Iran for its human rights abuses and its military adventurism.
