Vegas gunman emailed about bump stocks months before shooting: docs

An FBI agent told a judge in an October 3 document that Danley wasn't arrested when she returned to the USA; she had provided a DNA sample to authorities, and she was cooperating with investigators.

Stocks believed to be used in the massacre were found in the 32nd-floor hotel room from where Paddock fired on a crowd gathered for the finale of a country music festival held on the Las Vegas Strip.

Video from a neighbouring building has shown the spot that Stephen Paddock chose to fire onto the concert goers.

Warrants also showed that investigators found an email address identified by investigators as Paddock's where he received a message from an account identified as CentralPark4804@gmail.com that read, "for a thrill try out bumpfire ar's with 100 round magazine".

The records also did not say whether Danley knew in advance about Paddock's plans and why Paddock apparently emailed himself about buying and selling weapons and accessories.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents knew Paddock left behind big caches of guns, ammunition and explosives when they sought warrants to search his properties and online accounts, according to the court documents.

A USA judge in Nevada unsealed documents Friday showing some of what federal agents learned about Stephen Paddock in the week after the Las Vegas shooting.

The gunman who opened fire on a music festival from the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino came to Las Vegas armed with an arsenal - more than 20 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his room and more than 1,000 rounds and 100 pounds of explosive material in his vehicle, according to search warrants unsealed Friday.

Prosecutors didn't oppose Friday's request from media organizations including The Associated Press to release affidavits filed to get search warrants.

The biggest exhibition of cutting edge technology in the world, the Consumer Electronics Show , is in Las Vegas this week. The outage was reported at about 11:15 a.m.in the south and central halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

"The release of these documents is a good start toward complete transparency for records related to the October 1 shooting", Review-Journal Managing Editor Glenn Cook said. They're doing the public's business.

Three months before the shooting, Paddock sent emails discussing buying bump stocks, which can make semiautomatic rifles fire hundreds of rounds a minute, the unsealed documents show.

Paddock's email address and a Gmail address he was corresponding with had similar names, but investigators are perplexed as to why he may have been emailing himself. Attorney Maggie McLetchie, representing AP and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, said she is still seeking those documents.

U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey allowed the government to keep one affidavit sealed pending a hearing before a Nevada state court judge on Tuesday about whether Las Vegas police search warrant documents should also be made public.

A third cell phone, which was locked, could not be accessed, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Police searched two Nevada homes Paddock owned and found a cache of weapons and ammunition.

But investigators said the use of bump stocks on the night of the shooting allowed Paddock to fire rifles nearly as though they were automatic weapons.
