Winter weather advisory in effect for Friday

A Winter Weather Advisory was issued Thursday afternoon and is in effect through Saturday morning for the entire Miami Valley.

"Ice totals could go as high as 0.1" for areas in the Winter Storm Warning with lower amounts in Arkansas and Mississippi.

This is a complex system as we have an arctic front moving through this morning, dropping our temperatures. A southwest to northeast oriented band of heavy snow will likely set up, with freezing rain accumulating to the east of the heavy snow band. Freezing rain and sleet, possibly mixed with snow will occur later in the morning, followed by snow primarily mixed with freezing the afternoon. Snow is expected from Friday evening, and will continue into Friday night, tapering off Saturday morning. Wind chill temperatures will be as low as 5 to 15 degrees below zero at times from overnight Saturday night through Tuesday night.

A cold front will move into the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning ushering in much colder temperatures, very reminiscent of what the Kansas City area saw last week, said Linda Gilbert, a meteorologist with National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill. If they do line up, expect travel issues Friday into Friday night.

After a brief respite from one of the most brutal cold-spells in Chicago history, the bitter cold, freezing rain, sleet and snow are coming back. Temperatures will remain cold with highs in the 20s and 30s and lows in the teens and 20s.

Zac Brown Band Announces Target Field Concert Date
The band will also have a concert later in the summer, August 10, at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis. Prices are $99.50, $86 and $66 for pavilion seating and $34.75 for lawn tickets.

Saturday: Partly Cloudy with light winds and highs into the lower 30's.

The National Weather Service in Paducah said west Kentucky and southern IL are getting a taste of spring temperatures this week, only to be followed by a winter storm.

EAST AR: More sleet and ice than snow.

There is a slight chance for snow or rain on Sunday while the high will be about 38 degrees. Most of the precipitation will turn over to snow showers by 8 a.m. EST.

Forecasters at the weather service in Birmingham said winds could be sustained at 20-30 miles per hour with higher gusts.
