Airbus, P&W put A320 neo deliveries on hold: IndiGo

Airbus, P&W put A320 neo deliveries on hold: IndiGo

The official said EASA on Friday issued an emergency airworthiness directive for A320 neo planes fitted with PW1100 engines having a particular serial number.

Airbus brought the issue to the European aviation agency's attention, a spokesperson said, and the company has outlined safety recommendations for airlines until Pratt & Whitney can fix or replace the engines.

The issue is the latest in a string of problems that have bedeviled the GTF program.

Pratt & Whitney's new generation PurePower PW1100G geared turbofan (GTF) engines powering the Airbus A320neo family aircraft has ran into new problems.

The performance problem with the engine performance is apparently new, but Pratt & Whitney has had ongoing issues with supply of new engines, leading to delivery delays and reduced revenue forecasts in recent years.

"Our precautionary measure of grounding the three aircraft resulted in cancellations of some of our flights". "With safety as our top priority, has been making required engine replacements", Jasra said.

Parents are being advised to check the Department of Education website as a number of schools may be affected by the storm damage. COAST residents are still without power following a freak storm that ripped through South-east Queensland overnight.

Airbus has also issued an alert for providing instructions to de-pair the affected engines and discontinue extended range twin-engine operations for aircraft fitted with affected engines.

P&W in a statement said, we have identified an issue, which is isolated to a limited number of potentially affected aircraft.

Neither the aircraft manufacturer nor the agency disclosed what airlines are operating aircraft with affected engines.

According to civil aviation industry analyst, out of 100 plus A320neo planes, delivered with PW1100G - JM engines globally, 11 aircraft have this particular configuration on both engines and around 21 aircraft have this particular configuration on one of their engines.

"We are honoured by the continuing confidence that SWISS has placed in Pratt & Whitney and in the GTF engine", said Chris Calio, President, Commercial Engines, Pratt & Whitney.
