With move garnering positive reviews, the film got off to a decent start on Day 1 as it earned Rs 10.26 crore.

Muruganantham is the man who devised a low-priced method of producing sanitary pads for women after finding out that millions of women were unable to use sanitary napkins owing to high cost. The film has already faced mild criticism in India for this reason, and recent reports say that the film might not be released in Pakistan. His main motive was to make sanitary napkins at affordable prices. Holding a sanitary napkin high with her hands in a photo, the film's producer Twinkle Khanna had tweeted: "Yes, that's a pad in my hand and there's nothing to be ashamed about".

Another member echoed his sentiments and added, "We can't allow the screening of films on taboo subjects in our cinemas as it is not in our culture, society or even religion".

Jaiswal has claimed that he had submitted his script to Dharma Productions, but was shocked to learn that some of the scenes from Pad Man are directly lifted from his script.
