ANC meeting to finalise Zuma's fate

ANC meeting to finalise Zuma's fate

Opposition parties have said the impasse made Ramaphosa, also the ANC president, appear weak.

It is understood that a key sticking point in the negotiations is the potentially ruinous legal fees Zuma is facing from prolonged court battles against multiple criminal cases.

His main issues were to do with his probable court costs as he faces the imminent re-imposition of 783 counts on 18 charges of fraud, money-laundering and corruption relating to a 1999 multibillion dollar arms deal.

The party also claimed that there was information that the president was planning to fire Ramaphosa any time from late yesterday and replace him with Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

St George's Cathedral was at the forefront of the anti-apartheid struggle and during a Christmas mass service past year its archbishop, Thabo Makgoba, called on the new ANC leadership to act "quickly and decisively" to replace Zuma as head of state.

"We know you want this matter to be finalized", he told a crowd marking 100 years since the birth of the country's first black president, Nelson Mandela.

Analysts believe the committee will call for Mr Zuma's resignation.

Analysts say the uncertainty and delay are damaging the ANC. "Now the last surprise is him hanging on". Zuma's tenure as president officially runs until mid-2019.

He was also in the middle of a heated team meeting when he questioned why Kevin Love left a game early and missed a practice. After being treated on the Cavs' bench, James checked back into the game with 8:58 left before the break.

When Ramaphosa sold off his business in 2014 and returned to politics, he became one of South Africa's 20 richest people. Wherever Nelson Mandela is, he is upset with Zuma, the NEC and ANC for not exercising authority. The Democratic Alliance (center-right opposition) leader Mmusi Maimane demands that Zuma be impeached after learning that SONA had been postponed.

South Africans have repeatedly taken to the streets in recent years demanding that Mr Zuma resign.

"The REC would like to appeal to the NEC members to speak in unison on this matter and manage contradictory statements that cause confusion in the rank and file and society at large."The more the matter is prolonged, the more the people of South Africa are losing hope in the ANC and opportunistic elements occupy the space, exclusively to topple the ANC from power". According to ANC rules, all members, even elected officials, fulfil their functions according to the will of the party. If he refuses, the matter could go to parliament for a possible motion of no confidence or impeachment proceedings.

Responding to comments on her photo posting from seemingly unhappy South Africans, Madiba-Zuma reiterated her warning about rough times ahead in the defence of her scandal-hit husband.

The BBC's Africa Correspondent Andrew Harding said the NEC was likely to ask Mr Zuma to step down.

To carry out Mandela's legacy, the ANC must fight corruption, Ramaphosa said.

Meanwhile, the SACP last night accused Zuma of tribalism and ethnic mobilisation to stay in power. "The days of Jacob Zuma are over".
