Chelsea target Vidal expresses desire to stay at Bayern

Manchester United's hopes of signing Arturo Vidal have taken a blow after the Bayern Munich star professed his desire to sign a contract extension with the German champions. He once said in a press conference, "Arturo is a fantastic player".

Twenty academy players have signed for the club's first team, the highest number in Major League Soccer with 10 players now holding roster spots.

'Of course I would like to extend. Speaking with Calciomercato, he said, "I'm not thinking about a transfer". The 29-year-old has stood in goal for the majority of the season following an injury to Manuel Neuer and has impressed with his performances.

But, in an interview with kicker Sportmagazin earlier this month, Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes alleviated some of the fears by confirming that Vidal's place in the squad was not in danger despite the arrival of the German midfielder in the summer. "That's an option. My kids are very happy here, too".

Vidal has scored six goals and has made two assists in 18 appearances in the Bundesliga this term to help Bayern establish a commanding lead at the top of the table.

The Ivory Coast global has a £35million buy-out clause and is keen to play in the Premier League next season.

"The past three years have shown that we can always rely on Sven Ulreich", said Bayern's director of sport Hasan Salihamidzic. "This season especially he's played a massive part hunt for the title, as well as our continued progress in the UEFA Champions League and DFB Cup". "He's very good in the one-on-one situations".
