China Police Start to use Smart Glasses to Tackle Crime

China Police Start to use Smart Glasses to Tackle Crime

For the security goal, Chinese police have been provided with high tech facial recognition sunglasses that can give them the information about the criminals and spot them.

The future of China's criminals isn't so bright thanks to police officers' new shades that some find frighteningly powerful.

It gives police "the ability to check anywhere", Wu Fei, chief executive at LLVision, told the Journal. According to The Verge, the facial recognition sunglasses are now being tested at train stations in Zhengzhou.

China's timing for deploying these glasses lines up with the upcoming Lunar New Year festival and holiday.

China is a world leader in the development of face recognition technologies, and the population is constantly reminded that such equipment means criminals cannot escape the law. "You can decide right away what the next interaction is going to be". In addition, another 26 people traveling with false identities were also detected by officers wearing the facial recognition glasses. According to a spokesperson from LLVision, the facial recognition sunglasses are able to recognize individuals from a pre-loaded, handheld database of around 10,000 suspects in just under 100 milliseconds.

Officials said the boy wasn't in any distress and went back to eating dinner after being rescued. Mason got a stuffed animal after he escaped the claw machine.

For as long as it has been around, there have been concerns over the privacy implications that come with facial recognition systems.

Facial recognition technology mounted on vehicles is also being tested in other countries such as the United Kingdom, where police including those in London have trialed it at sporting events and street parades. The police can also access an individual's internet usage.

Despite the company stating that its project team has encountered "unprecedented challenges" due to the government's high demands for speed and accuracy back in October 2017, it seems that the facial recognition technology advancements have already started to pick up the pace.

The technology allows police officers to take a photograph of a suspicious individual and then compare it to pictures stored in an internal database.
