Erin Hamlin's family reminisces about Hamlin's first luge experience

Team USA will be led into the opening ceremony at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics by luge veteran Erin Hamlin, who enters her last Olympics and will carry in the US flag.

Jody also credits Hamlin for creating friendships on Team USA's women's luge competitors.

She said the closing ceremony is also an emotional time.

This is Hamlin's fourth and final Olympics.

Summer Britcher, who set a track record of 46.132 seconds on this luge course during Monday's runs, finished 19th. I was not able to capitalize on a really good opportunity.

As the hometown of U.S. Olympian and bronze medal-winning luger Erin Hamlin, the village of Remsen is receiving some recognition from Vice President Mike Pence. "I will never forget it".

Officials said she had now reached the epitome of being an Olympian. Her family just thought it would be fun to try out luging at an event in Syracuse, NY.

Hamlin's accomplishments are rare - now, even more so, since her teammates chose her to carry the flag into PyeongChang's opening ceremony.

And she is getting ready for another big adventure this year.

"Over the years, I have seen a lot of the same people, so you start to form friendships, which is cool, and the Olympics make that happen", Hamlin said.

After the Pyeongchang Games, Hamlin said that she is going to take some time to relax and finish planning her wedding. She's looking to improve upon her 15th-place showing in Sochi.
