Google's Android Messages app to compete against Apple's iMessage

Google's Android Messages app to compete against Apple's iMessage

According to the report unearthed by XDA Developers, a new update has been rolled out to the messaging app, which confirms a new code has been hidden in the update log, that indicates Google is planning to release a web-based service for its Android Messages app, which allows users to send texts, photos/videos and share files or locations as well.

Prompts asking a user to enable "chat features" that include messaging over Wi-Fi and high-quality photo sharing, all of which is powered by Google are also present in the code. It appears as if Google may just start building out RCS features into Android Messages without carrier support, since carriers aren't exactly rushing to join their party. First of all, it seems that Google is gearing up to launch a new web interface that would finally allow users to pair their smartphones with their PCs and text from the Web. As with Allo, the feature lets you pair with a smartphone for easy sending of messages.

No, the green bubbles (sadly) won't be going away, but Android users may soon have a way to exchange messages via their web browsers.

From the now dormant code, it appears users will scan a QR code after visiting a website in a web browser to link his or her phone. This could come in handy for longer messages, or for those who prefer typing on a computer keyboard rather than a phone. The feature, codenamed "Ditto", has been spotted by Android Police in the code for the latest version of Android Messages.

He also notes that all mainstream browsers may be supported, as they are all named in the code - including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera. Signed in devices will also be shown in the settings.

Fergie responds after 2006 clip of Quentin Tarantino biting her goes viral
She added that "we kept having to redo the scene", because Tarantino got too "into" his role as a "creature". Asked if her comments had been taken out of context, Fergie replied: "Yeah".

The second feature could involve RCS, which stands for Rich Communication Services and aims to replace SMS with additional features.

RCS typically requires carrier implementation.

Africanews free app allows Android device users to access the latest Pan-African and global news everywhere, anytime. "Text over Wi-Fi and data".

It is not yet certain when, if ever, Android Messages will be rolling out the new messaging feature.
