Hong Kong bus overturns, killing at least 19 people

At least 19 people have been killed and dozens injured after a double-decker bus overturned in Hong Kong.

The bus number 872 flipped and hit a lamppost before it came to a stop on its left side on a road near Tai Po in the New Territories at around 6.30 p.m., TVB reported.

Police said at least 18 people, including 15 men, had been confirmed dead on the scene.

According to the SCMP, one passenger said the bus was going "much faster" than usual.

The Tai Po-bound bus was carrying spectators and workers from Shatin racecourse when the accident took place.

Rescuers tried to reach passengers trapped in the wreckage although police were unable to say how many were still inside. It was really chaotic in the bus.

The bus, operated only on race days, was packed with passengers leaving the Sha Tin horse-racing course.
