Kim Jong Un's sister to attend Olympic Games

Kim Jong Un's sister to attend Olympic Games

Speaking at the end of his Wednesday General Audience, the Pope noted that the XXIII Winter Olympics are being inaugurated in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang on Friday, with the participation of teams from 92 countries.

Nicole Darrah, of FOX News, reports, Pence - who arrived in Japan on Tuesday ahead of a meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US service members - is scheduled to make his way to South Korea for the Winter Games to lead the USA delegation in the opening ceremonies.

A North Korean foreign ministry official, however, ruled out a meeting with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who will be representing the U.S.at the opening ceremony.

"Until North Korea gets on a pathway to giving up its nuclear weapons, this pressure and all these sanctions, and we've got more to come, are going to keep coming", Tillerson said, according to the Post.

Kim Yo Jong, right, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, will meet with South Korean president Moon Jae-in.

Following a last-minute proposal during Kim's annual New Year's address, North Korea is sending 22 athletes to compete and a delegation of more than 400 musicians, singers, martial artists and members of a cheering group to the games.

"Let the world know we will defeat any attack and meet any use of conventional or nuclear weapons with a response that is rapid, overwhelming and effective", said Pence.

North Korea's Winter Olympics delegation were swamped by media as they attended their welcome ceremony at the Athletes' Village in Gangneung on Thursday.

David Davis accuses European Union of 'bad faith' in Brexit document
In the first major bust-up regarding the next stage of negotiations, Mr Davis complained the proposals were "not in good faith". The document speculates that Northern Ireland's GDP could take a 12% hit in the event of a "no deal" Brexit.

The cheerleaders represent an advance party of high-level officials from the North Korean regime who are set to attend the Winter Games.

Pence has lambasted the North, announcing in Tokyo yesterday that the United States would impose its toughest sanctions to date on the regime.

"We will not allow North Korean propaganda to hijack the message and imagery of the Olympic Games".

Trump has tweeted about North Korea or Kim Jong Un since January 14 when he took issue with a Wall Street Journal report that quoted the president as saying he has a good relationship with Kim.

"Our forces are ready and our nation is resolved", Pence said in a speech to USA troops at the Yokota Air Base in Japan, as he prepared to fly to South Korea to attend the Winter Olympics.

"Pence is expected to make other symbolic moves on the trip to keep attention on North Korea, including a Friday morning meeting with defectors from the North".

Some 13,000 troops took part in the one-and-a-half hour event, watched by 50,000 spectators, with Kim Jong-un waving to the crowd, Yonhap said.
