Kulbhushan Jadhav now undergoing trial on terrorism and sabotage charges

Former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is on a death row in Pakistan for alleged espionage is undergoing another trial under the charges of "sabotage and terrorism", reported Pakistan daily Dawn on Monday, citing an unnamed official.

According to the official, Jadhav, 47, has multiple cases against him in which he had been indicted on terror and sabotage-related charges.

The former Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was arrested on March 31 a year ago from the restive Balochistan province, is reportedly facing multiple charges, among which the one related to alleged spying has recently concluded. He was in April past year sentenced to death by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) after being found guilty of espionage under Section 59 of the Pakistan Army Act (PAA), 1952, and Section 3 of the Official Secrets Act of 1923.

The ICJ is now hearing an Indian petition challenging Pakistan¿s refusal to grant consular access to the spy.

This matter will be brought up in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) where the trial is underway, according to a report in the Pakistani newspaper.

"We have asked if the passport is fake (then) how he exited Mumbai and Delhi airports 18 times", said a Pakistani official.

Dawn quoted a source in New Delhi as saying that among the officials whom Pakistan sought access were National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and a former RAW chief.

Islamabad has also sought information on Jadhav's Navy service file, bank record of his pension payment, and issuance of the passport in the name of Mubarak Hussain Patel. The video came right after India expressed its displeasure over the way Pak had treated Jadhav's family and breaching the understandings that had been reached.

The oral arguments by both the nations, India and Pakistan, are yet to commence, but ICJ fixed April 17 and July 17 as the deadline for India and Pakistan respectively for filing written pleadings in the case. However, India maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Indian Navy.

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa ratified the sentencing by the army tribunal. After twenty-two months after Pakistan claimed him of spying, Jadhav finally met his wife Chetankul and mother Avanti across a glass wall at the Pakistan foreign office on December 26, 2017.
