Wall may be built in House Intel Committee as atmosphere 'absolute poison'

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee are planning to wall off their aides - literally - from panel Democrats by erecting a partition in the chamber, CBS News is reporting. "It's absolute poison down there", Republican Tom Rooney said when questioned about the plan by CBS. "But the committee is still salvageable with a new leader", Swalwell, D-Calif., told ABC News' Rick Klein and Jonathan Karl on the "Powerhouse Politics" podcast Wednesday.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, a member of the divided House Intelligence Committee, wants the Republican chairman, Rep.

Another Republican member who spoke with CBS suggested the idea may have been spurred on by House Intelligence Committee Chair Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA).

While acknowledging a wall might not be constructive for the committee's work, he said, "The level of trust and the level of everything down there is-it's poison". "You've got to talk to Devin. I don't know what they're trying to do one way or the other", Conaway told CBS.

"We do support our troops, but I think most troops would tell you they would rather be taken care of than march to the president's tune down Pennsylvania Avenue", Swalwell said.

The North then withdrew its request after it asked for more fuel than Seoul was willing to provide, a Seoul official added. There's worry, too, that the proposed summit Pyongyang may come with preconditions - a North Korean specialty.

Swalwell, who has represented a Northern California congressional district since 2013, called the decision by Nunes and the Republicans on the committee to release the memo "poisonous" to the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, adding that Democrats deserve to release their rebuttal memo in response to the GOP's.

Nunes's site, which has a small note pointing out that it is paid for by the Devin Nunes Campaign Committee, has been infrequently publishing since mid-2017.

Both the White House counsel and President Trump have said they are inclined to release the memo if it can be cleansed of information that compromises national security, with the president personally accusing them of inserting that material, knowing it'd create a classification matter that would look bad for the Republicans and good for them. Nunes has said that the committee's Republicans are still investigating and plan to put together more memos.

Mr. Nunes, the author of a memo making the initial charges against the Federal Bureau of Investigation said the panel's Democrats should be, but aren't, spending the weekend "redacting it so that we can get it back to the White House so the president can declassify it".
