Amazon Addresses Alexa's Misplaced Laughter

A lot of people have gotten used to Alexa hearing every word they're saying, but there are occasions when the smart assistant does something weird that reminds us how unusual it is to have a digital robot around all the time. To end a "conversation" you can say something like "thank you" or "stop" while Alexa is listening for a follow-up. Some even said that it happened when they were falling asleep. Once the blue light fades, Alexa is officially back into sleep mode and must be woken up with a phrase like "Hey, Alexa" or whatever you've set your custom wake word or phrase to.

There are potential problems here, though. "We are changing that phrase to be 'Alexa, can you laugh?' which is less likely to have false positives, and we are disabling the short utterance 'Alexa, laugh.'" In addition to this, Amazon also adds, "We are also changing Alexa's response from simply laughter to 'Sure, I can laugh" followed by laughter". After all, until they received an update, Echo units were shown to be prone to following commands from the TV. There are some interesting kinks here that Amazon may have to iron out.

"Neymar? A fantasy transfer and nobody knows where it will end" - Valverde
At Barcelona, Valverde was also asked if he could see a club one day spending €400m, and he replied: "I have no idea". The Brazilian has been unsettled in the French capital since joining in the summer for a world-record £198million fee.

CNET says that the follow-up mode setting is opt-in and is available for all device in the Echo lineup, as well as some third-party Echo devices. Select your device then toggle the Follow-Up Mode switch.

Not anymore. Follow-Up Mode changes all that. But perhaps Amazon should focus on developing Alexa's smarts further so that it may one day be able to recognize multiple commands in the same sentence. Currently, follow-up mode is only available in English, and will only work when Alexa isn't being used for another persistent activity such as listening to an audiobook or music. Maybe the company is already heading in that direction.
