H1Z1 is going free-to-play today

H1Z1 is going free-to-play today

The move comes as no surprise as, like most "originals", the game has been surpassed in popularity and player count by other battle royale titles PUBG and Fortnite.

As previously mentioned, H1Z1 will be completely free to download and play via Steam beginning at 10am PT today, giving everyone the opportunity to play the old tried and tested battle royale mode and the new vehicle-only Auto Royale mode without spending a cent.

Those who purchased H1Z1 for $19.99 in the week since its formal launch on February 28 may be upset to find that the game is now free. The announcement includes links to Steam and Daybreak customer service for those wishing to refund a recent purchase of the game in accordance with Steam's refund policy, with an extra commitment from Daybreak to "work with you to make it right", should any difficulties arise in that process. Keep in mind, however, that in order to qualify for a refund, your total playtime will need to clock in at less than two hours.

Takeaways From the ECB's Policy Announcement
The Stoxx Europe 600 index climbed 1.1% to 376.62, the best close since February 28, FactSet data showed. As of this morning, German Bund yields are right on the edge of an important technical level at 0.70%.

To support H1Z1's new free-to-play model, there are naturally new purchasable DLC bundles being added, which can be bought for $20, $50, or $100 and which contain various skins, crates, and Skulls (H1Z1's in-game currency). This is the first time a game developer (Daybreak) and an independent league operator (Twin Galaxies) have worked together - numerous other leagues are either fully independent or run by the studios themselves. All matches will be broadcast on Facebook, the league's exclusive streaming partner. Plus, Caesars Entertainment will be the official venue and entertainment partner.

Daybreak has positioned H1Z1 Pro League as "the world's first professional battle royale esport league", with 15 teams on-board so far.

All of this sounds great, but the question is whether or not it's enough to revitalize interest in the game. H1Z1 - originally called King of the Kill - was arguably the first battle royale title on the market, with one Brendan "Playerunknown" Greene chipping in his insight in a consultant capacity during development.
