Howard County primary ballots more than 85 percent Republican

Now that the votes are counted, we have some answers and some observations about where we are headed in the 2018 midterms.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised eyebrows in Culberson's district when it publicly released a memo calling one of its seven candidates, Laura Moser, a "Washington insider" who'd once declared she'd "rather have my teeth pulled out without anesthesia" than live in Paris, Texas.

It's true that Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D) - Democrats' great hope for taking on Ted Cruz in Texas's Senate race this fall - had never run for statewide office before.

Periello says the Virginia results show there's room in the party — even in the same primary — for a range of philosophies and styles. So former Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and two other Republicans challenged him during the GOP primary. He has been projected to win his primary race but is considered a long-shot to beat Cruz in November. In 2014, by contrast, Republicans outpaced Democrats in early voting ― 365,423 voters to 226,730.

Even with a super-energized base, he only got 641,000 votes, less than half of Cruz's total.

It was also a big night for two Hispanic women, Veronica Escobar and Sylvia Garcia, who took wide leads in their Democratic primaries and are poised to become the first two female Hispanic congressmen in a state where a population boom has been driven by Hispanic growth.

Valdez took 42.9 percent of the vote and won several counties in the western part of the state and in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, known for his provocative social media posts about Democrats and Muslims, has survived a bitter Republican primary in his bid for re-election.

Senate Republicans will be voting on this Monday and Senate Democrats are expected to try to add on a few gun control measures on top of these bills.

Media 'Feasts' on Vulnerable, Possibly Drunk Former Trump Aide
Mr Nunberg conducted phone interviews including with MSNBC's Katy Tur and did six interviews in total in the space of four hours. He also denied allegations about prostitutes in Moscow that closely mirror claims made in the Steele dossier.

But the DCCC's attacks on Moser 10 days before the primary-a broadside so clumsy and transparent it drew criticism from DNC chair Tom Perez and members of Congress-didn't work as intended.

Overall, the voter split last night was still 60-40 GOP. Chip Roy has an 8-percent lead lead over Matt McCall and William Negley, who at this point have the same exact number of votes - 7,393. He raised more money than his opponents, but not so much more that money would exclusively explain his impressive win. Voting in the primary is essential to make sure your preferred candidate is represented on the final ballot.

MA also could send its first Latina to Congress in the race to replace Rep. Nicki Tsongas, a Democrat in the state's Congressional District 3 race. Expect intense intra-party warfare to play out over the next six weeks as the DCCC tries to keep a candidate who is too liberal to win from getting the nomination. "Here in OR, our county parties are fired up, and Democrats have a strong field of candidates running in every corner of the state".

Ruby Faye Woolridge, Jana Lynne Sanchez head to a runoff in the Democratic primary for U.S. Rep. District 6.

Republicans are anxious about a seeming surge of energy among Democrats, a surge that was enough to concern Cruz.

More recently, there are signs that primary turnout may tell us something. Watch next week's special election in Pennsylvania's 18 Congressional District very closely.

O'Rourke, an upstart but energetic candidate, hopes to capitalize on his growing star power and catch the blue wave his party is banking on across the country. Democrats were split between Berniecrats and centrists, while Republicans were split between moderates and the far right. The same is said for a lot of independents in the United States.

Primary season kicked off with the Texas primary on Tuesday.
