Jets castoff Muhammad Wilkerson finds a new team

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst and cap manager Russ Ball delivered a big-time talent on defense at a price point everyone should be able to agree on.

On a day that was beyond busy in Green Bay, the Packers have signed defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson, formerly of the Jets.

It was a significant decline for Wilkerson, a 2011 first-round pick who once appeared to be on the verge of stardom.

Now Wilkerson will come back home to face the Jets when the Packers come to MetLife Stadium this season. Mike Pettine, the Packers' new defensive coordinator, was Wilkerson's defensive coordinator with NY when he was drafted in the first round in 2011.

Four Labour MPs sent suspicious packages with 'Punish A Muslim' letter
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Mr Fabricant said: 'Can I ask the House to think of the office for the MP for Bedford. Parliament has emailed all staff, warning them to "be on the alert for suspicious items of mail".

The deal is for one year, $5 million plus an additional $3 million in incentives, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. He took a one-year deal and will have a chance to prove he's the player he was. He becomes the second impact free agent to sign with Green Bay on Tuesday, following Jimmy Graham.

NY officially released Wilkerson on February 28. The Jets released him after his last two seasons. Wilkerson has remained a solid contributor in recent years, but the Jets didn't feel his play justified his salary. Coach Mike McCarthy fired defensive coordinator Dom Capers in January after nine seasons.

For the Packers, this is another departure from their traditionally conservative approach to free agency.

NY signed Wilkerson, the team's first-round pick in the 2011 draft, to a five-year extension that included $53 million in guarantees after his Pro Bowl season in 2015, but it did not fare out as planned.
