National Football League notes: Browns swing trades for QB Taylor, WR Landry, CB Randall

A starting quarterback. A three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. However, the Browns betrayed my trust and traded the 65th pick in the 2018 National Football League draft for Tyrod Taylor.

Whatever the case, thanks to their blockbuster moves, Cleveland is suddenly on fire again, much like the Cuyahoga decades ago, no longer a running joke and could very well shape both free agency and the draft.

Any quarterback should have enough confidence in himself to withstand a challenge from a first-round draft pick or he wouldn't be worth starting. Sam Darnold is the leader on the backstretch to be the top pick, with Josh Allen a length behind. Though their draft plans have been on the down low, Saquon Barkley could take the pressure off of Taylor in his first year. Quarterback DeShone Kizer, lauded as the next big thing in Cleveland, was shipped off to Green Bay to be Aaron Rodgers' backup in exchange for mercurial corner Demarious Randall.

What Thomas didn't say is that the moves will lead him to return for another season. That's a serious addition of talent to a winless team. GM John Dorsey and HC Hue Jackson are looking to make an immediate impact on the 2018 season. Taylor has started at least 14 games each of the last three seasons and threw for 2,799 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions previous year. They want to move up in the 2018 draft to select their franchise guy. Their moves from here on out put them in a better position than they were in a year ago, which ultimately means that they are not only a position to win a game, but maybe even multiple games.

The 24-year-old entered the league as the seventh overall pick in the 2014 draft. And he's also 25, which would put him in his prime.

A parliamentary committee approved a bill on Monday to extend military draft exemptions to ultra-Orthodox men. Police have already recommended Netanyahu be charged in two corruption cases.

With some of the news over the weekend calming down surrounding the several trades with the Cleveland Browns, the Indianapolis Colts might have a new potential trade partner in the Buffalo Bills.

Following their trade with the Dolphins, the Browns receiving core immediately improved. But he's a dependable slot receiver who has caught 71 percent of the passes thrown to him in his career, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. Having a new general manager and head coach lends even more uncertainty to what the team will do. The two even got into a Twitter spat about the game.

Cousins, who has 81 touchdown passes and a 97.5 passer rating over the last three years, can provide it. A trio of Kizer, Taylor and a drafted rookie made sense.

He informed the Browns he would make a decision by the time free agency begins March 14. The Browns are working on a long-term deal to make the investment worthwhile.

The deal confirmed Friday includes $55 million guaranteed and an average annual salary of $16.5 million. They'll have roughly $33 million to work with in free agency.
