This ICE Spokesperson Said He Couldn't Continue Lying, So He Quit

While Schwab said he may not agree with Schaaf on everything she did, he said the original ICE projections were to arrest far fewer than the 232 people agents took into custody.

Former ICE spokesman James Schwab pointed to statements made by Acting ICE Director Tom Homan and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who have stated that Schaaf's warning February 24 about an ICE raid in Northern California resulted in several hundred undocumented immigrants from eluding arrest, according to multiple media outlets, including the San Francisco Chronicle, KTVU and CNN.

Visiting Sacramento, Sessions said, "So here's my message for Mayor Schaaf: How dare you?"

When ICE is seeking an illegal immigrant target and knows the person has been booked into a local prison or jail it will send a detainer request both asking to be notified before the person is released, and for the person to be held for up to 48 hours after the normal release point for pickup.

In response, Schaaf said, "How dare you vilify members of our community by trying to frighten the American public into thinking that all undocumented residents are risky criminals?".

"864 criminal aliens and public safety threats remain at large in the community, and I have to believe that some of them were able to elude us thanks to the mayor's irresponsible decision", Homan said.

"I didn't feel like fabricating the truth to defend ourselves against (Schaaf's) actions was the way to go about it", he continued.

Schwab said that, before resigning, as he was faced with questions from reporters about Homan's and Sessions' comments, he hoped he could set the record straight and correct the idea that hundreds of unsafe criminals got away thanks to Schaaf.

Four Labour MPs sent suspicious packages with 'Punish A Muslim' letter
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Mr Fabricant said: 'Can I ask the House to think of the office for the MP for Bedford. Parliament has emailed all staff, warning them to "be on the alert for suspicious items of mail".

"We were never going to pick up that many people".

"It's the job of a public affairs officer to offer transparency for the agency you work for." he argued. "But to blame her for 800 risky people out there is just false", he continued. I've never been in a situation when I've been asked to ignore the facts because it was more convenient.

Mr. Homan also blasted U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who called ICE enforcement actions last month "unjust and cruel".

"I just couldn't bear the burden - continuing on as a representative of the agency and charged with upholding integrity, knowing that information was false", he told CNN, adding that in his 16 years of experience in government he had never been asked to deflect when he knew something was inaccurate. But Lori Haley, the western region communications director for ICE on Monday, told KTVU that Schwab had resigned "abruptly".

On Tuesday, ICE spokeswoman Liz Johnson did not directly counter the former spokesman's claims but backed away from the agency director's previous statement that hundreds escaped because of the mayor. He believes the number of undocumented immigrants who have evaded capture due to Oakland Mayor Libby Schwab's public warning before the immigration raids began, were overstated by the agency. "And to say they're a type of unsafe criminal is also misleading". A Justice Department spokesperson could not immediately be reached.

She said this of Schwab: "We appreciate his service and wish him well". Very unsafe. She really made law enforcement much more risky than it had to be.

"But if anyone wants to have a public argument over precisely how many unsafe criminal aliens eluded arrest because of the Mayor's irresponsible actions, we are happy to have that debate". I think she could have had other options.
