This Is Us theory: Is Beth really going to die?

"I think she is now really emotionally prepared to be that person for him". "There are definitely a few cliffhangers, not ones you necessarily see happening or from characters you wouldn't see coming from before this episode", star Mandy Moore (Rebecca) told Deadline at SXSW.

Since the first season, the two have constantly been at odds.

We see that Toby has sunken into a depression and Kate is attending to him while he is in bed.

The poor girl has been through so much in her life, and all we know is that at some point Toby is going to have to adjust his meds. And we see her getting up and preparing what looks to be like she is about to dump some of his ashes out near the tree. She finally admits that her mother has been her inspiration throughout life, and she can wants to become just like her. Of course, Toby defends Kate and tells them they can stay or go, but either way he's marrying Kate. Within the latter half of this season alone, This Is Us gave us a heartbreaking miscarriage; an almost devastating auto accident that resulted in a DUI; a fire that nearly killed Jack Pearson, then didn't, but sort of did because he died of a heart attack afterward, all on Super Bowl Sunday; an eviction; and a wedding day that should have been focused on celebrating Toby and Kate but instead was dominated by the heavy grief and guilt Kate has been carrying for two decades with regard to her father's death.

During Randall's toast, we see glimpses of where the Pearsons will be in the future. There is a very realistic possibility that Beth, in her older age, is terminally ill from an incurable disease - suffering from dementia and not the same Beth that Randall and Tess have grown to love. Maybe she committed a disgusting crime that they haven't been able to come to grips with.

Randall: She might kill us both not in our sleep. If I'm playing the "what if" game that Randall plays where he envisions the worst-case scenarios, then Deja walking a dark path that leads her behind bars would be just that. "And that's not to say that they are in danger of parting ways, but marriage is real and takes work". Could it be that Beth will someday perish of the same cancer that took her father?

This ICE Spokesperson Said He Couldn't Continue Lying, So He Quit
But Lori Haley, the western region communications director for ICE on Monday, told KTVU that Schwab had resigned "abruptly". I've never been in a situation when I've been asked to ignore the facts because it was more convenient.

Later in the episode, This Is Us further played with viewers' emotions seeing Jack and Rebecca's crenewal ceremony, including mentions of the couple opening their dream construction company, Big Three Homes, which they planned to open before the fire.

Kevin Pearson [Justin Hartley] was also shown dating Beth's cousin Zoe and they were both flying to Vietnam. However, her being absent in a scene where Randall and Tess have to reluctantly go see someone they care about? It also dealt more directly and honestly with the fact that bad things happen to good people, not because there's a grand plan in place, but because life is just kind of an asshole sometimes.

"We have big cliffhanger moments", Aptaker continued.

While Randall, Beth, Tess and Annie enjoy the brief respite from the uncertainty that's about to come to their family and after wondering where Deja has run off to, we see Deja taking a baseball bat and smashing Randall's vehicle.

But if it isn't Deja whom Randall and Tess are referring to, could it be Beth or Annie? Toby will never be able to replace Jack in Kate's heart, but he's damned well deserving of his own full-sized space there. While we don't think either Kate or Toby will get cold feet, it is possible that one of them could suffer a health scare like Toby did in Season 1.

"This Is Us" loaded on several new pieces of baggage Tuesday. Randall's was a return to the aforementioned future with Tess as a social worker.
