Wayne Rooney pens tribute to Michael Carrick on Twitter

"There comes a time when as much as you don't like it, it's time to stop playing football".

"So that's pretty much where I'm at, which is fine".

United boss Jose Mourinho suggested at the beginning of the year that the 34-cap England worldwide would likely bring the curtain down on his career at the end of the campaign and, speaking to reporters ahead of Tuesday's meeting with Sevilla, Carrick confirmed the news.

While Carrick has always had his critics, he has been admired by every United coach he's worked with, from Alex Ferguson all the way through to Mourinho. "We're still talking about it to be honest so there is nothing to totally confirm yet, but it's looking likely".

"But, yeah, it's looking likely".

Amazon Xiaomi Redmi 5 sale in India today
Though the company has not confirmed the name of the smartphone, rumours suggest that Xiaomi is likely to launch Redmi 5 in India. The phone comes in three variants, 2GB RAM +16GB storage, 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and a 4GB RAM variant with 32GB storage.

However, after seeing his playing time get restricted to just four appearances this season, largely due to a heart condition, the 36-year-old Carrick has chose to call time on a glittering career. The England midfielder confirmed that he is totally fine now and wants to finish on his own terms.

'Obviously, I had the problem in the Burton game, when it started during the second half, and then had a few tests after that, ' he told the media ahead of tomorrow's game.

"I think it is quite refreshing to look at Scott and see how he deals with it", he said on the midfielder. It took a little bit of time to get over but there were some times when, for two or three days, I was thinking 'am I going to carry on playing or not?' or 'is it kind of worth it or not?' but that quickly passed.

"I need to keep myself fit and ready".

Carrick has played over seven hundred senior games at club level across spells with West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United with the majority of those outings coming for the latter. He also has three League Cups titles and six Community Shields under his belt.
