19-year-old student dead following Binghamton University stabbing

A teenager from Rye Brook has been stabbed to death at Binghamton University.

Souza graduated a year ago from Blind Brook High School in Rye Brook, New York, where he was a star soccer player.

"They have reported that this does not appear to be a random act", the university said. "Due to yesterday's tragic event on campus, all classes are canceled today, Monday, April 16", it read.

The suspect, who fled on foot, was described as a light-skinned male wearing dark trousers and a dark hoodie, according to police.

The incident happened at around 10:30 Binghamton University in upstate NY.

University police released few details about the ongoing investigation and said it's possible the suspect was still armed. Authorities said more information will be released later Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

Police told people in the area of the Palisades and Nyack buildings in Hillside to stay back while they searched inside following a potential sighting of the suspect.

Investigators have not disclosed circumstances surrounding Sunday's stabbing, which marks the second homicide involving a BU student this year and the fourth homicide to occur in Broome County for 2018.

On March 11, Binghamton nursing student Haley Anderson, 22, of Westbury, Long Island, was found murdered at an off-campus residence. "Should that happen, please report it to hall staff on duty or police", said Student Affairs Vice President Brian Rose.

The Broome County district attorney's office is now now seeking to possess this suspect came back from Nicaragua to stand test.
