Egypt to extend state of emergency for 3 months - official gazette

The Egyptian army on Saturday said it has foiled a major terror attack in the restive central Sinai by shooting dead 14 terrorists who attempted to break into camps of the armed forces and killed eight Army personnel.

The militants attacked the checkpoint at around dawn, an army statement said.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail also extended an overnight curfew in parts of North Sinai, where Daesh's Egypt affiliate is based, according to another decree published Saturday by the official gazette. It did not say how the other nine were killed.

Almost two dozen Egyptian officers and soldiers were slaughtered and more than two dozen others were injured in an attack early Saturday morning by Islamic State terrorists at the largest Egyptian army base in Sinai.

"The armed forces were able today to foil a large terrorist operation", the military said.

With the Brazilian midfielder serving a suspension, Pep Guardiola has turned to an experienced Germany worldwide for assistance. Tottenham Hotspur is playing far better now than it was when Manchester City defeated the club 4-1 at home back in December.

The statement stressed the Armed Forces are continuing to root out terrorism which is in turn making militants carry out desperate attempts at retaliation.

Egypt extended its nationwide state of emergency for three months as of April 14, according to the official gazette.

Egypt has been battling an Islamist insurgency in the northern Sinai Peninsula since el-Sissi toppled his predecessor, Mohammed Morsi, in 2013.

Egypt first imposed the current state of emergency in April 2017 after two church bombings killed at least 45 people.

On Saturday, the military said its forces killed 27 suspected militants as part of the security operation that began on February 9.
