'Islam jeetega ya Bhagwan jeetega': BJP MLA Surendra Singh

Principal Secretary (Information) Avanish Awasthi had said in an statement late last night that an FIR would be lodged under appropriate sections against Sengar and others and the investigation would be handed over to CBI. "Once we procure substantial evidence, we will go ahead with the arrest of the MLA and his henchmen", disclosed a senior CBI officer engaged with the investigation.

A special CBI court here on Saturday sent, to seven days CBI custody, rape accused Uttar Pradesh BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar, while the medical examination of the 17-year-old victim was conducted at a hospital here earlier in the day.

The teen had accused the MLA of raping her in June a year ago.

In the second FIR, the CBI has booked the rape victim's father, Surender Singh, on the basis of an FIR filed by the UP Police on April 3 for criminal intimidation, voluntarily causing hurt, threat and unlawful possession of arms.

Family members of the survivor have previously said that the police had initially refused to register an FIR and had refused to take action against Sengar.

He also said before the court that he has "faith in the judiciary", as reported by news agency ANI.
