Leaked Apple memo: 12 employees were arrested a year ago for leaking secrets

Last month, Apple caught and fired the employee responsible for leaking details from an internal, confidential meeting about Apple's software roadmap. "While it may seem flattering to be approached, it's important to remember that you're getting played". 12 of those were arrested. A scoop about an unreleased Apple product can generate massive traffic for a publication and financially benefit the blogger or reporter who broke it.

In other words, those who want the best Apple has to offer - which is to say an edgeless OLED display - will still be paying a premium. Now, Apple Store employees have admitted that the Cupertino-based company is hiring external contractors to assist the Apple Store employees. The update was pushed out on 29 March, introducing Apple's promised iPhone battery health information, as well as the ability to turn off the slowing down of smartphones related to the battery following the scandal in December. It appears as if Mark Zuckerberg went into the hearing intending to draw parallels to Apple in a sort of "they did it too" defense, as evidenced by recently leaked notes that the Facebook CEO made before going into the hearing. A letter, sent by Frank Jorgensen, an attorney at the Njord law firm on behalf of Apple, included a settlement agreement that also notified him the screens would be destroyed. It will have the same physical size and form factor as old iPhone X however Apple will push the bezel-reduced full screen design with the contentious notch.

"You've got thousands of people working on manufacturing something who have no vested interest in keeping it secret", one employee said, adding that he believes leaks will continue to increase as Apple ramps up overseas manufacturing operations.

In the last few weeks, analysts at City and Wall Street investment banks have begun cutting forecasts for iPhone sales in the expectation that many consumers baulk at the four-figure price tag and think the cheaper iPhone 8 looks like a bargain by comparison. These programs have almost eliminated the theft of prototypes and products from factories, caught leakers and prevented many others from leaking in the first place.

"Leakers do not simply lose their jobs at Apple", the memo states.

While they carry serious consequences, leaks are completely avoidable.
