Mehbooba Mufti to decide on resignation of BJP minister, says Ram Madhav

The third case pertains to the allegations against the victim's father, who was arrested by the police under the Arms Act and put in jail, where he died.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today accepted the resignations of two controversial BJP ministers, who had participated in a rally in support of the people arrested in connection with the rape and murder of an eight-year-old Muslim girl in Kathua, officials said. As per a report in the Times of India, the police will now match the call records of the accused and the victim and try to ascertain their locations at the time of calls.

BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar is accused of raping a 16-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district. Sengar is facing several charges under the Indian Penal Code, including sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping to compel a woman to marry), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Ganga and Singh submitted their resignations to the BJP's State president yesterday to save the image of the Prime Minister and the party following a controversy over their presence in a rally in support of the accused.

The nabbed person has been identified as Shashi Singh.

Life threats against Unnao rape survivor's relatives and residents of her village have increased in the past few days, claimed the victim's uncle. She has also alleged in the FIR filed in this case that Shashi Singh was present at the spot when the incident happened. While police initially did not arrest him, the eventual pressure resulted in the matter being handed over to CBI and Sengar being arrested.

The teen had accused the MLA of raping her in June previous year.

"We very much hope that the authorities will bring the perpetrators to justice so they can be held accountable for the murder of this young girl", he said.

Cornered over supporting the accused, the BJP according to sources had sought resignations from Singh, and Ganga.

He had said that BJP would stand with Hindu Ekta Manch "to have the case referred to the CBI".
