Prime Minister Narendra Modi hails India's performance at Commonwealth Games

After seven years of preparation, 11 days of competition, and one poorly-received closing ceremony, the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games are officially over.

On the final day of the games, Africa's medals came from Namibia's Helalia Johannes who won the women's marathon in two hours, 32.40 minutes, Uganda's Munyo Mutai who won silver in a dramatic men's marathon where Scotland's Callum Hawkins collapsed inside the final five kilometers after leading for most of the race.

Fearnley told a local radio show on Monday afternoon that the ceremony omission had been disappointing.

The chair of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games has fully copped to mucking up the closing ceremony, pointing to several key factors that lead to widespread criticism.

The closing ceremony included live acts by Australian pop stars Guy Sebastian, Samantha Jade, Dami Im and The Veronicas. Boxers Thiwanka Ranasinghe and Ishan Bandara also took home bronze medals in their events.

"I'm sorry you're being way too polite", Griggs responded.

"I will engage with everyone when there is a real solid circumstances to blow up".

During the entire blunder, the marching athletes, including the flag-bearers of various countries, were seen leaving the stadium while the closing speeches were still in progress.

"I felt elated when Jamaican Athletics Technical Director said this is about the first time Nigerian athletes are being professional. Yes we did stuff it up", he said. They did see that moment.

The unbelievable story of Michael Cohen-and Sean Hannity
Fox News quickly pivoted away from coverage of the Cohen hearing and aired stories about Syria and Barbara Bush's illness. As Hannity's radio show began at 3 p.m., the host was nowhere to be heard.

Griggs was congratulated for her on-air condemnation of the closing ceremony in which she displayed her anger that the broadcast didn't celebrate the athletes.

"We don't really want to be integrated, we're Paralympians and they're Olympians", said Kelly Cartwright, an amputee who won long jump gold at the 2012 Paralympics and competed in the power-lifting on the Gold Coast.

"All of a sudden I saw the guy to my left come through and I was a bit like "woah", Arnott told Reuters.

Zempilas explained it was the decision of the host broadcaster to have the athletes in the stadium before the ceremony began - a decision Griggs said "wrecked a tradition".

Viewers have criticised performances, formalities and most of all, the decision to not show the athletes - or flag bearer Kurt Fearnley - entering the stadium.

"Unfortunately tonight, the hosts - the organising committee together with the host broadcasters - just didn't get it right", Zempilas said.

"This decision to bring the athletes into the stadium before the broadcast was operationally driven, given there were restrictions on being able to keep the athletes waiting in comfort".

"We are naturally disappointed that the good intentions of the creative did not necessarily work for some of the athletes involved and the broadcast audience".

"The speeches were too many and too long".
