Ring smart doorbells get big price cuts on Amazon Canada

This is more or less Amazon's way of celebrating its $1 billion acquisition of the smart home startup, which was announced in February and completed just recently.

Jamie Siminoff, CEO and Chief Inventor of Ring says, "Together with Amazon, we will accelerate our mission dramatically by connecting more neighbours globally and making our security devices and systems more affordable and accessible".

The main difference between the first-generation model and the Video Doorbell 2 is that the latter can capture footage in 1080p HD.

Starting today, the first generation Ring Video Doorbell will cost $99, a $50 reduction from the $149 list price. The device was previously priced at $179.99, but Amazon has permanently dropped the price to a much more palatable $99.99. "We're excited about their work, their products and their mission, and look forward to teaming together to keep delighting customers", said Dave Limp, SVP of Amazon Devices and Services.

The bill would also ensure that any staff, documents and other investigation materials were preserved as the matter was pending. If the panel were to find no just cause to dismiss the special counsel in that time , the order would be overturned.

Amazon's relationship with Ring began in 2016 through the Alexa Fund, the company's investment arm to support companies with cutting-edge technologies that are innovating with voice.

The smart doorbell allows an owner to see who is at the door and respond, even if at another location. Amazon also said that the Ring, Blink and Amazon Cloud Cam security products will all continue to operate under their respective brands. "We'll be able to achieve even more by partnering with an inventive, customer-centric company like Amazon".

Customers can however use the doorbell without this subscription and just utilise the live video feed.

Among other things, that means that existing customers shouldn't expect service interruptions with the product.

"But you love it when you run into opportunities where you have an incredibly mission-oriented leader and a team that executes extremely well, products that customers absolutely love and are already at scale - Ring checked all those boxes".
