Russian embassy rebuffs Pompeo's Moscow intervention accusation

Pompeo, who after 15 months at the Central intelligence Agency was nominated by Trump to replace secretary of state Rex Tillerson, declined to give details of his conversations with Mueller investigators, or confirm any discussions with Trump on the Russian Federation probe. Pompeo's views on global issues are well known - he was questioned extensively by senators for his confirmation to run the Central Intelligence Agency - but Democratic senators have raised questions about his fitness to be top diplomat, given his hawkish views and past comments about minorities.

Pompeo was speaking to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during his confirmation hearing to become secretary of state when he revealed details about the February 7 attack on Russian mercenaries.

"I take a back seat to no one" when it comes to standing up to Russia, Pompeo said.

Mr Pompeo acknowledged for the first time publicly he had been interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller, whose federal probe includes looking into whether there was collusion with Moscow by Trump campaign aides. Pompeo defended his record, promising he will treat people of all faiths "with the dignity and respect that they deserve".

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., took Pompeo to task over for saying previously that Muslims have a special obligation to denounce extremism and for his longstanding position that gays should not be able to marry.

"But I'll tell you this".

It includes a 6 percent sales tax on a variety of services, including auto and home repairs, to pay for higher classroom spending. Bevin further angered teachers by signing legislation altering pensions for teachers and other state employees.

"I have cooperated with multiple investigations, while the investigation continues, I think that's the appropriate way to approach it", Pompeo said.

He also vowed to continue "to take real actions to push back, to reset the deterrence relationship with respect to Russian Federation". "What did President Trump say to you and Director Coats in that meeting?"

But on Thursday, he strove to emphasize that he would work to "fix" the deal with skeptical European allies by a May 12 deadline.

President Donald Trump's pick to become Washington's top diplomat pledged Thursday to work with U.S. allies to strengthen the Iran deal and played down fears he is bent on regime change in North Korea.

Pompeo declined to discuss "private conversations" with the president, but asserted that Trump never asked him to do anything improper.
