Severe weather Saturday with tornado warnings ongoing

Columbia County and neighboring areas of the region have been upgraded to a "moderate" risk for severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening. We are tracking another cold front that will move through late Wednesday into Thursday.

The risk of severe weather is lower for Sunday, although there is a small risk as instability increases in the afternoon in east central Georgia. There's a chance of a shower possible at night when lows will be in the 40s. Wind chills will be in the teens through the day with one to three inches of accumulation.

The clash in air masses and the vigorous nature of this storm system will all contribute to the chances for severe weather today.

The main impacts from these storms will include damaging winds as well as very heavy rain.

UFC Glendale: Dustin Poirier demands title shot after stopping Justin Gaethje cold
As Gaethje stumbled around the cage, Poirier swarmed in to tag him with combinations before finishing him along the cage wall. What remains unsure, however, is whether Poirier will get his wish for an instant title shot.

We will continue to update this story as the forecast changes. The best chance of this happening would be from western North Carolina toward Southside Virginia, but it is far from certain these "discrete" storms will develop at all.

Locally heavy rain is also possible with 1-2inches of rain.
