Trump's re-election campaign raises $10m

U.S. President Donald Trump's re-election campaign raised $10 million in the first quarter of the year, leaving his re-election operation with $28 million in cash, his campaign disclosed on Sunday.

In all, Trump's campaign committee and two fundraising committees that jointly raise money with the Republican National Committee - Trump Victory and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee - together raised almost $20.2 million in the first quarter, filings show.

NAIJ.com gathered that unlike presidents before him, Trump has opted to begin active fundraising in the early part of his first term. Usually, incumbent presidents have waited until after their second year in office to begin their re-election campaign.

The Trump campaign paid another $13,500 to McDermott Will & Emery, a firm that represents Cohen in the ongoing Russian Federation investigations and a newly revealed criminal inquiry. She wants to invalidate a $130,000 agreement to keep her relationship with Trump secret.

About $835,000 in payments for "legal consulting" were made to eight firms and the Trump Corporation, with the most - $347,000 - going to Jones Day.

The two legal firms involved in the fight with Daniels - Harding LLP and Larocca, Hornik, Rosen, Greenberg & Blaha - were paid a combined total of $280,000. That was a sharp drop from the previous quarter, when the campaign paid the firm almost $215,000.

The campaign spent another $58,000 on costs listed as "rent" divided between three recipients: Trump Plaza, Trump Restaurants and Trump Tower. Agents also seized the content of a safety deposit box and two of his cell phones. The campaign also paid $13, 468 to the law firm of McDermott, Will, and Emery, where Stephen Ryan, the attorney for Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen, works.
