Arsenal Ready To Gamble On Arteta As Wenger Replacement

Sky News reported that Arteta is the favourite to succeed Arsene Wenger and would have around £50m to spend on new players this summer if he gets the job.

The same story says that both Arteta and former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira are the two main candidates to take over at The Emirates if the Gunners do indeed move to appoint a younger manager.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri remains most fans' first choice to replace Wenger, despite appearing to indicate his desire to honour the final year of his contract after securing a fourth straight league and cup double last weekend.

Arteta would seek to bring in at least three of his own appointments - with further backroom changes expected.

Wenger's assistant Steve Bould has also been offered a new role but the former defender hasn't yet given an indication of his future and is understood be weighing up an offer from recently relegated Stoke City.

Arsene Wenger: Mikel Arteta has quality to become Arsenal manager

Like Pep, Arteta was a cerebral player, a fluid central midfielder who made the best out of his career from his days in Barcelona's academy to breaking through at Real Sociedad, then moving to PSG, Glasgow Rangers, Everton and Arsenal.

Arteta is apparently chief executive Ivan Gazidis and director Josh Kroenke's preferred candidate, although it has also been claimed that other board members wanted a manager with more experience.

According to the Daily Mail, head of medical Colin Lewin is among the staff who have been told that they will not be kept on at the club ahead of the arrival of a new boss.

A deal could be struck before the World Cup, with the Gunners reportedly keen to have their new man in place before the showpiece event in Russian Federation kicks off.
